New Harry Potter Book Will Be Released in July

Harry Potter fans have a lot to celebrate as J.K. Rowling recently announced that a new book in her world-famous series will be released this coming July. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be the first addition to the series in nearly 10 years. Learn more about this exciting announcement in today’s blog, below.

New Harry Potter Book Will Be Released in July

 

The new Harry Potter book will actually be a published version of the script for a stage play by the same name. The play will debut in London on July 30th and the book will be released that evening at midnight. An ebook version will be released simultaneously by the platform Pottermore, Rowling’s online encyclopedia of the Harry Potter universe.

 

The play is being written by Rowling with help of stage-writer Jack Thorne and will be an official sequel to the original series. Set 19 years after the end of the last book, it will follow the adventures of Harry’s youngest son, Albus Severus. Many Potter fans were disappointed at the fact that they would not be able to see the play in person (tickets quickly sold out when they went on sale in October), which is why it was decided that the script should be made available as a book to fans worldwide.

 

Due to the sprawling nature of the story, the play is being divided into 2 parts which theatergoers can attend on the same day or split over two days. The book will be available in a single volume and is being published by Scholastic in the U.S., Little, Brown in the UK, and Hachette in Australia.

 

The Harry Potter series was one of the most successful book franchises ever, and more than 450 million copies have been sold throughout the world to date. Debuting 19 years after the publication of the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the launch is meant to coincide with the eponymous hero’s birthday.
