Odds are that you might be in the market for a new portfolio so that you can show potential clients or employers just how much you know about creating a beautiful building. Before you can show them how amazing your architectural skills are, you need to show them that you’ve completed in the past with a beautifully bound portfolio. Today we’re going to be sharing some insights on putting together the best portfolio you can.

A resume is not a portfolio.

A standalone resume without an actual portfolio filled with examples of your work is a waste of time. Imagine a painter or a singer coming to you and asking you to invest in their art. Without an example of their artistic ability, anything about going to a good school isn’t going to mean all that much. After all, some of the finest artists of our day never even finished high school. Architects are similar in this matter, though a degree is often required. You need a collection of your work to be considered for a potential job. However, it should also be noted that your portfolio shouldn’t be too long. It should be a streamlined representation of what you are capable of.

Cater to the interests of your audience.

If you apply for six different projects, then you should have six different versions of your portfolio. Each version should be tailored to the needs of your potential client so that they can see their vision in your previous work. Don’t make them imagine whether or not you’ll be perfect for the job. Show them.

Invest in binding solutions for your portfolio.

What your architecture portfolio looks like is just as important as what is inside of it. You should show your potential clients that you care enough about your work to invest in quality materials. Having a beautiful binding for your portfolio will also show that your taste in design is seamless and transitions throughout different mediums.
