Ready for Business

Our brand new building stands on the site of an old horse racing track. The street address 2 Nashua Court, is named after a horse, Nashua, that once ran in the Kentucky Derby. With horse racing in season, there’s no better time to explain some of the history behind our present premises. If you’re an avid fan of horse racing, then you know how prestigious the Kentucky Derby is.

Back in Time

Now let’s go back in time and revisit some of the key points of the history here. On May 24th, 1975, a 2-year-old thoroughbred named Postern was kidnapped from inside his stall at nearby Laurel Park with a ransom of $20,000. However, Postern was soon recovered and his kidnappers were arrested.

On May 23rd, 1953, another horse achieves some fame. This time, the horse is named Native Dancer. The darling of Sagamore Farms in Glyndon, Native Dancer triumphs in 77th edition of the Preakness Stakes with a narrow victory over Jamie K. Dancer would also go on to win the Belmont Stakes and appear on the cover of Time Magazine.

On May 27th, 1949, Rosecroft Raceway is ready for race season. It’s a harness track in Oxon Hill that sees over 5,600 fans pack in for the first night of the season. Here is where the past meets with the present.

The New Track

The Baltimore Raceway saw its construction begin in December of 1949, opening in May of 1950 just in time for the next horse racing season. A track designed for harness horse racing, it’s located on Pulaski Highway (Route 40) and was meant to surpass both the Laurel and Rosecroft Raceways. Come see us at our new headquarters and witness a part of Baltimore’s horse racing history for yourself.
